Any of the 20v heads will physically bolt up to any 10v block. The trick comes in the compression ratio.

If you tried to bolt the 20v head to the MC 10vt block your resulting compression ratio would be around 6:1. This is due to the fact that the 20v head has a higher chamber volume than the 10v.

The only cheap OEM solution is to use one of the 2.3L short blocks (NF or NG code from the 5 cylinder 80/90 or the NA 5000) and bolt that to the 20v head. resulting CR comes out to 8.65:1

There is a thread going on the 034efi forums here: <a href="http://audi.newtsplace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84">
http://audi.newtsplace.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84</a>
Hope that helps!

Sure, that's what I'm using.

There are only a few differences between the 20v heads, turbo and non.

the 7A (NA) head does not use a water manifold for better coolant distrobution in the head like the turbo heads have. This is not a big issue as you can simply drill the head to accept the manifold. I'm working on a cad drawing that will accurately describe the surface of the head and where the holes need to be drilled. I'm not likely to use the OEM water manifold since dealer cost is around $350 and finding one used would be tricky. The flanges are the same as other pipes that are bolted to the block so you can weld something up quite easily.

The only two other difference besides the water manifold are the cams and the distributor hole. The AAN motors do not have the hole in the head for a distributor (it doesn't need one!) but the 3B does.

I think that's it. I'm not worried about the cam issue though since I know of a guy running this configuration in his rally car pushing nearly 500hp.

Default So your going to turbo a 7A motor?

What are you using for a exhaust manifold/turbo?

Not exactly. I'm going to turbo the 7A HEAD. the block came from an NG/NF.

exhaust manifold will be home brewed. I've got some thick stainless plate that I'll cut flanges from then weld up a tube header from that. The turbo is a garrett T4/k26 hybrid. I may sell that one and go with a full on Garrett turbo since I don't need to rely on the KKK flanges any more ;-)

Default 20V NA head or 20V Turbo head?

My car already HAS and NG. I would love to have a "bolt" on solution. From your description, it sounds like I could bolt on a 20V turbo head and all the turbo goodies. Right? that would give me a 2.3ltr 20VT with a CR of 8.65:1, right? Will it all "fit" under my hood? With EFI, would it all run right? How much boost could I run? Any clue how much power this would put out? Humm...a 20VT CGT? I'm drool;ing all over my keyboard...

Default I see....

Does the 7A head have the sodium filled valves?

Sounds like a fun project. Let us know how it turns out.
