Default 29mm sway bar vs 27mm sway bar: Truth or Fiction?

Can anybody confirm whether there is any truth to the rumor that in 1987 Audi used a 29mm front sway bar rather than the 27mm of the other years? Sound like a myth that needs to be debunked. ETKA shows no difference, same part numbers for all...

Default Crazy idea

I read about a guy who was building a Ford Probe and he wanted a big sway bar but had no budget left. He took two stock units and welded them together (alternating sides to try to preserve the temper) and made himself a huge bar.

Don't try this at home. I have no idea how well/poorly it worked. FWIW, many FWD racers remove the stock front bar and throw it away. You can't do this without big springs, though.

What year Camaro was he using bar from? Aaron, you are correct about FWD racers. Threw away front sway on our GTI and added second rear Shine bar. 500# springs in front and 350# on Billstein coil overs. Car runs FSP and we took first place in 15 of 16 events this season making our rookie year pretty sweet.

Now if I can only get the 4000Q to turn and not scrub off the frint tires! ;-)

I drive an 87 4000Q. I'll measure the front bar tonight and report back .

I measured the sway bar, in three different places, came up with 26mm++ each time. I suppose it could be called 27mm if you stretch it, but definitely not 29mm.

The manufacture date on the door tag is 11/86, so it may not qualify as the elusive 87.5.
