Default varies shop to shop.

it's not a big job, probably wouldn't cost much.

Default Hubs and brakes aren't interchangeable between the two

Here's why:

Quantum brakes:

The biggest issues are that the bearings have different inside diameters(75.07mm on the 4K, 68mm on the Quantum), and the hub shafts have different diameters to fit the accompanying bearing, so the Quantum bearings won't fit in the 4K knuckles, and the Quantum hubs won't fit in the 4K bearings. Then you have the issue of brake rotor diameter(245mm on the 4K, 239mm on the Quantum), and the offset is different. Not to mention that the Quantum caliper carriers mount to the back, and the 4K caliper carriers mount to the front. I can continue, but I think you see where this is going.

Default Re: Thats can be a bad idea...

Do you intend to drive this car hard? track days?auto-x rallyX? if the answer to any of the above is yes DO NOT DRILL you open your self up to cracking, DRILLED HOLES IN PARTS WEAKEN THEM! andhub cracks are difficult to spot.

Default i knew this would come up.

there's plenty of material on a hub to allow for another set of lugs; it's not as though they'll be drilled right next to the existing holes, nor is it akin to cross-driling brakes, which i definitely do not recommend. as i said before, a friend of mine did it to his 4kq, and he's FLOGGED that car. no problems at all from the hubs.

it's definitely best left to a machine shop, though. a DIY job probably will crack the hubs.

Default Re: i knew this would come up.

The only reason I brought it up was when I was working at Motor Sport Service, and al oag was racing the vw's, hub and upright cracks were a problem and those parts had also been shot peened- drilled holes , especially threaded holes, create tremendous stress raisers.
Thats all

Default drilling would be fine for anything a street-driven 4kq would encounter.

it sounds like you're talking about full-on race abuse, and i agree. you'd be stupid to drill a different bolt pattern into a race car's hub. it's fine for spirited driving or autoxing, though.
