Awesome! That should be awesome to help you with your own vehicle. Where you from on the island? I'm from Vancouver.

As well, if you are willing to part out the second Audi, give me a shout. I may be interested in some parts

Heh, my second Audi was a parts car too. You didn't say if it was a quattro, but if so it might be worth figuring out the problems and fixing it up. It's not like they're terribly complicated.

Be sure to post some pics and info when you get it.

i phoned the guy a couple hours after i put up this post. Its a dark red 87 4000s. fwd, 2.2 litre 5 cylinder.

he says its a hard starter but when its going it runs good. Also said the cv joints are going. i dont know how hard that is to fix. Apparently its burning black though.

New exhaust
New spark plugs
Sometimes lent to a friend (who drives it rough)
New tires
Oil change recently
Body work possibly needed

im going to have a look at this car very soon

and im in the town of duncan.

hey guys. I just checked out the audi.

its got some good things, and some bad things

i will put them in a list

-bodywork is good, no real dents. some rust on wheel wells and rear corner.
-engine needs some work but runs well. exhaust manifold leak
-starts up fairly well, idles rough at first but smoothens out
-all electronics are flawless
-door handles broken or missing, also no trunk lock
-minor interior moulding
-windows are good, no cracks or chips
-valve tick
-new, quiet exhast
-new spark plugs

what do you think?

That all sounds like pretty minor stuff as far as these go. For free? Can't beat that.

They pretty much all have lifter tick, although if it doesn't go away it could be a quart low or need an oil change. It's rarely something to worry about in my experience.

You'll officially be a member of Team Doorhandle!

There's a good chance that the hard staring is caused by a vaccume leak. Try spraying some carb cleaner around the intake areas once you do have it running. If you hear a difference in the idle you have located a leak. The way that the CIS system works is that engine vaccume raises the plate in the fuel dist. that triggers fuel flow to the injectors. if the vac is reduced you get no fuel.

yeah, i know believe me iv'e spent hours upon hours of time working out the fuel system on these cars. ive had my stone grey 4000 for two and a half years now and i fiddle with these parts frequently making my car run like a champ. when i got it it ran poorly until i tried putting a plastic bag over the intake boot (only while i tested it) and it ran better. so until i get a new intake boot i have a bit off real tight plastic rap and electrical tape covering a tear. works great believe it or not...

so i should not have any issues getting it going.

also their is a small pipe coming up the side of the intake manifold with a blue rubber cap on the end. you know what that does? when i was checking out the new Audi, that cap was missing and their was black stuff coming out of it.
