Default Adjustable?

Never heard of such a thing, though I don't doubt they exist. Search your Yellow Pages for the nearest starter/alternator rebuilding shop.

Default Why would you need one?

If you have voltage supply problem, find the source of the problem.....typically it's bad battery cables that are a combination of old, corroded, have had bogus connectors installed, and are too small in diameter to carry the load of all the electronics.

Simply replacing the cables will amaze you with the improvements you'll get.

Default Check Huw's website

He did some experimenting and found that all regulators are not created equal. Choose your brand, choose your voltage.

Default actually, voltage losss is common to all VAG vehicles

a combination of wierd charge line routings and Bosch alternators losing voltage in time. Alternators thould be supplying a steady 14.4v at the battery. And yeah, I'd try a rebuild shop. I used to work at one, and all the old Boschs we did were sent out with adjustable regulators.

but i dont know what an adjustable regulator looks like and if i have one or not
my voltmeter does say 13-13.5 volts most of the time
i am still trying to figure out what cause the other alternator to blowup inside

Default alternators die from age

at 13.5 V, I'd definately recomend an adjustable regulator. The regulator is the little black circle with the two screws mounting it on the back of the alternator. An adjustable one will have a small (like 1mm) hole in the back of it. Inside that hole is a potentiometer (little plastic screw), which will adjust the output when you turn it.

Default If you're refering to a voltage reading on the dash gauge, they always read low

Check the output at the back of the alternator, and at the battery with a digital meter. That'll be most accurate.

And seriously consider replacing the battery cables with large diameter ones, like "0" gauge.

It makes a huge difference, and even your dash gauge will read higher.
