Default Yes. I do. especially now when the lows at night reach -5 or so plus wind chills of -30

it can get cold in the northeast. Im a few hundred feet above sea level and its exactly 1 degree right now. it is thick and gooey, but it sticks to everything so one quart is evenly coated all over the inside of the engine. it isnt that hard to move because it doesnt all collect in the pan, most of it stays stuck to things. oil pressure isnt really affected once it disperses throughout the engine.

i use it mostly for the wear inhibitors. royal purple has zinc in it and so does the lucas. its a bonus that the lucas is so sticky, but it behaves just like regular oil. the warmer it gets the thinner it gets. dry starts are the wear and tear equivalent of hundreds of miles of normal driving, so if you eliminate the dry starts, you save the engine from eating itself. it also makes a great assembly lube and moisturizes seals and gaskets to keep them from dryrotting and getting cracked.

Default The reason I was asking was....

I had the same issue living in the NW. So, for my last track day(Which I knew was going to be above freezing)I dumped in 20-50 synthetic and used a Mann filter. The ticking went away. I know this is because the 20-50 is a thicker oil and raises the oil pressure a bit. Also, there are a lot of crap oil filters that don't have the little check valve that restricts the oil from draining back into the filter after the engine is powered off. So, if you can run a thicker oil where you live and a good filter...it might save you the time and effort of replacing the lifters....for now. My 2cents

Default the problem with running the 20-50 in the winter...

is at startup I normally noticed MORE ticking as the oil when cold is more like sludge and takes some warming before turning into more of a liquid state. I plan on going back to 20-50 here when i get her back on the road this week to see how she does, as our tame winter seems to be coming to an end early.

Default I know...It is really only used at the track...I can handle the 10min of ticking...

at start up rather than the rest of the drive....I wish you would have mad it to THill...It was 4000 mecca. I counted seven and one UR. One guy had a 1.8t out of an A4 stuffed into his 4k. He did an amazing job it looked factory. Next time.

Default Holy crapoly 7 4kQ's?! What the....

I guess not so much the abused neglected all but forgotten younger cousin of the Ur-Q anymore eh?

Yea THill would've been fun, I wanted to get the 20v out there as well but with a faulty TPS both cars, while running, are sidelined from track duty until about the end of next week. Are you going to make it to 034's Dyno day? Im going to put the 84 up for the lowest HP run of the day

Default I couldnt believe it either. I think only 5 were on the track and a couple were there for show.

As an instructor I had the chance to ride in three of them and drove two sessions in a VERY well sorted 10vt that we brought down from Seattle. Truly, a beautifully handling car.

I would love to compete in the 115hp Championships but that is one evil drive down from Seattle. Have fun with that day. It should be a blast.

I attached a link of the events photographer. X22 and y47 were the two I had the most left seat time in.

4kness
