Can anyone give me some knowledge on how to change my alternator belt on my '86 4000 S?
I left it where it was when it was overheating. I am off today and want to do it myself if possible. It looked like two other belts are in the way. Any help will really be apprecdiated!!

You have three belts: PS, Alt, and A/C. I think the A/C belt has to come off to get the others on. This means unbolting the front pulley first. Then replacement is easy. When you put the A/C belt back on, snug the bolts down, turn the engine via the big 17mm nut on the pulley, and tighten the bolts again. Repeat this a couple times, and that will seat the A/C belt properly.

Thanks! I am about to leave to check it out.
Are you talking about the pulley that is attached to the alt.?
I don't know where the 17mm nut is. There is a 13mm nut that seems to act as part of a swivel to move the alternator.

There are 4 nuts holding the A/C, waterpump, PS,Alt. pulley to the crank pulley. You shouldn't have to remove the pulleys for the water pump, PS, or alt. You'll have to loosen the alternator in order to adjust the tension. The adjuster has a couble bolts to loosen up top, and there is another bolt on the bottom of the alt.

dB, thanks again for you help.
When I try to loosen the nuts on the main pulley, the pulley itself spins. How do I keep this from happening?
If I am not to take off the pulley, then does loosening the four nuts loosen the pulley so the AC belt can come off?

You may have to rotate the pulley around a couple times to get good enough clearance with your wrenches all up in there at the same time.
