Default Another paint question.

I just got two estimates for painting. The maaco guy said not to have a clearcoat put on because he said in 5 years itll just peel again. On the other hand, the quality paint guy said they include a clear coat for free. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Default Go for the clear, IMO...because...

if the car is covered, it'll look fine. If it peels in a short amount of time, then the painter/products were crappy to begin with. The clear adds an extra layer of protection, and buffs out quie nice. Plus, it's free!

Default If it's free go for it because....

if it takes (for example) 2 years for the clear coat to peal off, then it will extend the life of the paint job for that many years!

hpoefully that made sence, .

Besides the car looks a lot more lustrous with the clear cote.

Default I don't remember what color you are painting.

I had maaco do my last car, and in the end it came out well. They had to paint it 5 times till I was satisfied though.

Anyway if you are painting it black then I would just single stage it, if it is a color like red then you will definately want a clear coat. Clear coat on black usually does not turn out well unless done by someone very good. It dulls the blackness alittle.

Default The only thing you need to know about automotive paint is...

Don't trust Maaco. I wouldn't let them paint a little red wagon.

I kinda agree weve sent a couple cars there and they have painted over chrome, moldings on the glass tires everywhere id go with another place and clear should last more than five with a good painter.

Default The only way to get good results with Maaco

is to be a dick about it and take the car back to them until they get it right.

Default Metallic graphite.

Maaco said they would color match it to original, but another paint shop just picked out this other metallic black, which was pretty damn close and looked nice.

Do you guys think a metallic black is good enough? It looks good, but is darker than original.

Black is not the colour for a budget paint job. Platinium would be better.
