anyone know how a 91 coupe quattro handles compared to a 4kq?

I've had both (still own the CQ). The CQ TYP89 series has a tighter body and less chassis flex (well, unibody flex in this case). Hill climbers and rally drivers like the later car due to it's higher strength.
If you have the earlier Cq, you'll most definitely want to add a sway bar to the rear.
Remember, though, that these cars are over 10 years old now, so driving one compared to another can be misleading, all depending on how well the car was taken care of.

I have driven the CQ 20v some. The main thing I noticed was the lack of acceleration from 0-30 due to the 4-valve 'camminess' of the engine. My 4kq is just as fast in those times. However, I absolutely LOVE the TORSEN compared to the open diff in the 4kq. It totally glues that car to the pavement, especially in the rain. It is also a heavier car and is quite noticeable but gives it a more solid feel in a weird sort of way. Can you imagine having the 20v engine and TORSEN in the 4kq? Yummy.
All in all, I think the CQ is more of an upscale cruiser with luxury overtones compared to the scrappy 4kq. Keep in mind too that the CQ has more electronic toys to repair...

I had the pleasure of buying a new 20 valve coupe quattro in 1990 (red w/blk leather). It was actually the company car/demo of Len Hunt (had 4,000 miles on it). Many of you may know that Len is now VP of N. America for Audi. Anywho, that saved me about $3-4K off sticker. I paid about $28K. I drove the car for about 3 years (52K miles).
It is an awesome car. I do remember wishing it had more low end torque but it performed well at higher speeds, 50-100 mph. Repairs on the car were all covered during warranty but there were a few high $$ ones.
The 86 4000 CSq that I drive now as a second/track car is a great driving car for the $2,800 I bought it for. At the time (May 200) I considered a 90-91 coupe but coudn't find a nice one for less than $7-8K. If you have the cake and can find a nice one, get a coupe. There are some good mods for it.
Peace

I had those on my 86 too, but man...I could NOT for the life of me get those mounts to work with my bumper. They would flop all over the place, and dented the bumper something fierce. Awesome lights, though...until the plastic housing broke.
I'd love to put them back on. I found out the relay can be had at Radio Shack for 7 bux.
