Default Brake booster fade?

The brakes on my 82 coupe seem to lose stopping power after being in stop & go traffic. Then they seem to recover once they get a rest. I'm thinking it's a problem with the brake booster. Any way to check?

Default When you say they loose stopping power, what exactly do you mean?

Do you mean the brakes get hard to push? Do you mean they go to the floor? Do they just seem to fade? What exactly are the symptoms that concern you?

Default How long until they 'recover'?

If it's a few seconds, the yes, could be vaccum leak or something.

If a few minutes, could be a 'too hot' fading kind of thing. But then, you'd probably know that, as you'd almost be smelling them when they are that hot, I'd think..

Anything recently changed on the car?

Is it pulling to any direction at all when it does this?

Default some ideas >>>

check out the check valve on the vac booster line if thats failing it may let vac back out making it harder to push.

get someone to pump the brakes and check out the master cyl/ prop valve area under the hood and look for any little leaks. have them pump hard. you may be losing your prop valve.

Does it get hard to push if you pump the brakes when not moving but motor running?
