Brake Pressure Regulator

The brake pressure regulator is leaking on the 4kq. Is this a common problem with these? I just priced a new one and they run about $250CAN. I could certainly do without an expense like this since it's only a 400 dollar car!!! I took a picture (sorry for the quality, my cam doesn't like close shots) just to give everyone an idea of what I'm talking about. It's located beneath the master cylinder. Any BTDTs?

Oh yea, it's cigarette free day # 55. Maybe I shouldn't be so cheap and go buy a new one!! Hell, with all the money I'm saving, I should have a couple browns saved up soon!!

...audifans and one fella said he's owned 4 4kq's and they all leaked!! I emailed bowwow and they came in at $225. I'll see what everyone else has to say. Brake fluid is cheap, it's easy to keep topping it up. I'm just concerned about the mess it makes in the shop and the potential for the thing to fail completely. I don't know enough about them.
BTW, I'll be in Victoria again in mid July, for 5-6 weeks this time. If I need one I'll buy one there.

I concur about the swap. I've already put a line wrench on the lines and they all turn free. I suspect no more then half hour, even with bleeding.

Ur-q's.
Yeah, cause there's tons of those kicking around junk yards<rolls eyes>.
He said the part was specific for 4kq & Ur-q's, so that makes it a joy to find used. Other option that he said was some people have bypassed it, not sure how safe that is though.
If I recall I did remember seeing someone put in a manual proportioning valve once.

Mr. Mockry lives in Portland OR and runs an Audi parts biz. Great prices, great knowledge of the cars. Will ship anywhere.

SJM Auto Technic

I had a similar issues but it turned out to be the grommets on the bottom of the fluid reservoir and not the proportioning valve. So now I have a new proportioning valve sitting in a box at home... For an internet price check, try autohausaz.com - not sure of the cost to ship to Canada.

https://www.autohausaz.com/index.html</a
