bumper idea, tell me what you think

mind you i did this with microsoft paint, not photoshop because my comp would laugh at me if i tried to put it on. this is a 200, but i want to try the same idea for my 4000. it just happens that we have an extra damaged 200 bumper laying around that i could mold/shape from. i widened the outer opening bc 3 reasons, there are ducts that lead back to the brakes that i wouldn't want to compromise, screw locations, and i think it looks better bc the longer portions relate to the 200's body.

fiberglass
i've been doing some preliminary research as to how i would go about it and this is what i came up with. right off the bat i thought fiberglass would be the best way. i found out you can do it 2 ways, wither make a mold and then cast the mold using fiberlass, or make a one off piece. i thought i would use an original bumper and scult the new bumper out of polyeurethane (sp) foam glued onto it. i don't want to have to buy the stuff for making a mold which i may or may not be able to use the same resis/fiberglass that i would make the fianl product out of, have to look into it. for the first one anyway, and to forego the troubles of trying to put mounting hardware on a stand alone fiberglass shell, i would put fiberglass straight over the foam and encapsulate it between the fiberglass and the preexistant bumper. we have a slightly damaged 200 bumper that would serve as my test run. if i really wanted to get into it and try to sell some, molding would be the option along with figuring out how to mount it cleanly without drilling holes in the car. that's the brainstorming i've come up with so far. i'm gonna try to track down some polyeurethane foam soon just to scult one and see if i even want to pursue it. i found some polystyrene insolataion from the local hard ware store that may work. i'll call a foam shop and see what they say.

nother pic. did some more monkeying around and squared off bumper to IMO better version
i may even move the bottom chin up to make the gaps smaller. small but noticible difference. squared vs. .....

where are you from? i did the same research...
with the same idea but i didnt have the funding.. if youre anywhere near the east coast and youd like to make it a joint venture let me know bc i still dont have any bumpers at all... even if youre cross country im still very interested in the custom fab fiberglass bumper and i think we could arrange a good long range collaboration. 2 heads are always better than one.

on the west coast, seattle area
if i were to do a 4000 bumper, i would probably have to make a mold which would cost more money than i currently have, or just make an addition to the existing one. the mold also presents the problem of mounting. i really have no ideas on this topic. suggestions welcome. i will hopefully start forming foam for a 200 on our damamged bumper this weekend. keep ya posted. i'll reassess the 4000 when i'm done with the 200.
