Can you overfill on gearbox fluid?

How much is supposed to go into the gear box? I put two quarts into the thing, and I wasnt getting any oil pouring back out of the fill plug. My Haynes says just to top off the gearbox, so I assume im supposed to fill till oil comes back out at me.

Fill it until it starts to drip out of the fill hole.

Oh thats what he meant, my bad :)

that gave me some relief there, at first I thought I overfilled it, and I was going to blow out another seal or something.
