Default Clacking sound

There is a clacking sound coming from underneath my car sorta near the middle. My completely uneducated guess is that my exhaust is going to need to be replaced. It is really really LOUD and does not go away. I was told a month ago that my rear muffler was starting to go. But now I think the rest has gone as well. If it is anything else does anyone have any ideas?

Thnx

Default Higher RPMS the faster the sound...

which is why i sort of suspect the exhaust. The clacking sound (best I can describe) sounds sorta like some kind of air or gas escaping.

Default Cut off the shield.

That, or take it to a muffler shop and have them charge you to diagnose the problem and cut off the shield.

I let it go for a while, then eventually, somehow, the heatshield fell off

Shouldn't you replace it rather than remove it?

Default Doesn't matter, really.

They aren't as necessary as you might think; it's just there to keep the undercoating from melting, which after this many years isn't really an issue anymore.
