Default Clutch on 4cylinder - what do I need?

So far I've got:

- the clutch kit (disc/press plate/release brg)
- pilot brg
- rear main seal
- release brg guide sleeve

(1) What else should I have handy?

(2) I know there's got to be an alignment tool for the disc. Is this it: (http://www.rapidparts.com/Pages/vwc034v.html). Heh, PMC lists the pilot tool (I2031-50746) for $0.83 - I guess I'll get one of those.

(3) Does anyone know if there's an input shaft seal from the trans that should be replaced? Blau only lists 5cyl 4k models on their site.

(4) There's also a release brg shaft that PMC lists (I2028-32396) for $12. Do these wear out?

TIA.

Default Anyone?

I'd hate to take the car apart and realize I have to replace a $5 part. I'm hoping to do it all in one shot with a couple friends help.

Given all the work is to separate the trans from the engine, you'd be wise to consider replacing the shaft seal on the trans, the seal on the engine and the clutch slave cylinder or cable (not sure what the FWDs use) and inspect the mounts etc. Be ready to replace anything suspect.

What about tools?
The allignment tool (usually) comes in the kits. I've thrown out more than I can count. What about getting the axles out? BFSocket for the axle nut, 30mm, and the triple square for the inboard side. I think its 6mm, not sure though, little one in the box is for axles, big one is for head bolts and starters.

Do the rear main engine seal! Input shaft on tranny a good idea too, since your doing the bearing guide already. Also, take a look, is the shifter shaft seal leaking, or the axle seals? It sounds like you want to just do the tranny at once, and not worry about it for a few years. I'm not sure how the output (axle) shafts are in that car, but if they are like a vdub, it has a spring behind it that you have to push in to get to the clip and remove, not a big deal, can do it with a little hunk of metal and a bolt. If they are that way, there is a spring behind them that isn't long, so it shouldn't fly out and bonk you in the head, just makes it hard to push in.
