My "85 4kq will not go into gear when the engine is running. I can, however shut it off and select any gear and start the engine and "bumpstart" in that gear. At a stop the clutch will disengage and allow me to slip the clutch enough to get a 3rd gear start. even though it will disengage at speed and allow me to rev the engine with the pedel depressed I cannot up or downshift. So wadya think? Bad clutch, throwout bearing, master cyl. or slave?
HELP I drove it 50 miles like this today just to get her home, now I must fix.
TIA!!!

Sounds like what I'm going through with my worn clutch, hard to get into 1st and 2nd, reverse grinds bad. Could be a hydraulic issue too if you're not getting enough travel, I've got a cable clutch so I'm no expert...

went out to move the 4kq this morning and the clutch is working as fine as it ever has. I have done nothing to it but to "let it rest overnight". This is weird, in my experiance cars do not fix themselves! Maybe the Car Fairy paid a visit last night...

Buddy of mine said he was getting hardly any clutch action. Pedal went almost to the floor, before anything happend.
Turns out, his firewall had cracked, and most of his pedal travel was wasted, just moving the master cylnder.
Can't hurt to have a look under the hood and see what the master clutch cylnder does, when someone works the pedal for you.
If the firewall is broke?<ul><li><a href="http://www.034efi.com/product_info.php?products_id=76">Firewall Fix</a></li></ul>

When the peddle is depressed the firewall moves out about 1/4" so I adjusted the rod to the master to compensate for that loss of movement. Seems to do the trick, but I still get a grind in third and fourth while up or Downsifting.
