Default Common problem for an 85 GTC?

I got a 85 GT coupe, and I've had this problem for some time now. I can't really drive the car past 1500 rpm. I have to short shift the baby to 5th gear becuase once I go past 1500 rpm the car doesnt want anymore gas, so it will just roll, until it gets under 1500 rpm. I can drive it but only under 1500 rpm, and even when im in fifth gear, the max speed it will let me go is like 30. When the car is in idle, and i rev it, it will try to go past 1500 rpm, but will not go over. it will just try and try until i dont gas it anymore. When the car is cold at the start the car will be normal as if it didnt have the problem. What kinda problem is this? Fuel distributor issue?

Any help would be greatful.

Default Fuel related, possibly air

It's not getting enough fuel or air. first, when was the lzst air filter & fuel filter change? They could be plugged...

Sounds like you're missing the "spare" fuse. I think its #24 on the CGT. On my 4kq its #21. It delivers power to the CIS system.

Default How many fuel filters do a CGT have?

one below the car close to the right rear wheel correct???

Is there another one somewhere.

I haven't changed my fuelfilters ever, guess i would be a good idea then.

Whats the price of these items anyway?

Default There can be as many as 3.

Starting at the fuel tank. On some years there is a small plastic 'pre-filter.' It's there basically to keep junk out of the fuel pump. My car does NOT have this filter.

Then there is main filter with the fuel pump.

Finally, there is usually a small screen at the connection going into the fuel distributor (I think - somebody back me up here).

CGT Brad is right there about the three filters. Most of teh little screens going into the distibutor are non existent though. It seems pretty hit or miss as far as I've seen.

Another thing on CIS-E is the little grey fuel pressure regulator on the end of teh fuel distributor (has electrical plug in). I always bring that up cause I've seen a bunch of faulty ones and this is what happens when they're not working.

:-\ I dont even know when the last time the fuel filter was changed. I do know I recently put in a KNN air filter so, I dont think it would be the air filter. I'm gonna toy around with things to see what happens.

OK, I think I figured out what might be the problem.

There's a plug that connects to the fuel distributor. It's the nearest plug near the rightside headlight. I noticed the wire was exposed and when I tug on the wire and pull it back the idle changes. I noticed this and tried to throttle the car passed 1500 rpm. It had quite the trouble in doing so, and the problem came back. I then went the oposite way and the car's idle changed again. But this time I throttled it and It was acting normal again. Does anyone know what this plug is called? Is it hard to replace? How much do they go for?

Oh yeah I put electrical tape around it and drove it around, and it ran normal.

Default so i found the one under the bottom...

of the car, but my hayne's manual states that there should be "another one on the supply line to the distributer on the bulkhead"

followed the line from the distributer as far as i could, but it goes below the batteri holder.

Is there really a filter below there, and how on earth are you supposed to get to it?
