Control Arm Bolt

What is the right tool to get to the bolt that holds the A arm to the subframe in an 84cgt? I tried a joint but it was like I was on the wrong angle to get to it still..

The bolts of death!
(And why was someone telling us it was a good chassis???)
These bolts come loose in 100k or so and are responsible for a lot of time wasting on front end noises. Not that people shouldn't be rebuilding the front-end at that point.
The beauty part is that if they really come loose you will probably crash and die.
I have heard many techniques for these bolts, but open end wrenches and a socket for the other side were the only things to ever work for me. The wrench goes in at an angle with just part of the arms over the face of the nut/bolt head.
Do this and tighten all of the fragile subframe bolts. If they loosen again, you really should pull the thing off and get new bushings.

yeah, Im rebuilding the front end now and these bushings are toast..
talking about loose stuff.. pulled both drive shafts to get repaired ones, and the allen heads were ALL hand tight and the big axle nut was about the same.
i just bought this car, obviously the PO didn't do ANYTHING to it..
ok, back to the BOD..er.. bolts of death.

get loose when rebuilts are put on because it is hard to keep grease from getting on the threads. When I first posted, db's comments weren't visible. I wonder how that happens.
It took a 30 ton press to put my bearings in, FYI. It lifted the 6-ton off the mounts.
The Q-list is a great source of old car info. I posted there regularly with the old cars.
The electics are a freaking nightmare on that car (and most old audis). Just get some quality wire and start replacing everything now.

I just replaced the bushings on my Son's 83 4K using the method on the site linked below. Worked like a charm. I used a 4" C clamp to install each bushing once compressed.<ul><li><a href="http://www.humanspeakers.com/audi/bushings.htm">http://www.humanspeakers.com/audi/bushings.htm</a</li></ul>
