Default

you need to fix it, it is a vacuum leak.

the hose seems a little too big around to be a vacuum line, and the cars been running fine for about 3 weeks now with it not attached. but i want to fix it, but i can't really undertsnad how... it rusted off.

Default Is it--

--the hose that attaches to the round 'bubble' on the side of the engine block? If that fitting rusted, you can buy a new one (not terribly expensive). It just presses into the block. Tap it in with a rubber mallet, and be sure to use some Permatex or similiar sealant around it. Getting the old one out is usually as simply as impaling it with a screwdriver and prying it.
Good time to replace the little piece of rubber hose too. DON'T use heater hose as it can collapse.
