Or you could take suggestions from others...see the link below!
Maybe ask duandcc if and where he has one mounted, as he suggested the passat cupholder in the link below!

I hate drilling holes in my cars. I would have to make some kind of bracket that I could remove if I ever got sick of it.

He's a friend of mine, used to be 10 minutes away when I lived in NH.
The picture on that page shows it bolted to the right of the center console.
As I recall he found an even cooler cupholder mod.. using a dealer part for the audi TT. It is a nicely discrete part that can be bolted/screwed into whatever. I didn't find any pics on his site but I remember him showing it to me in person.. pretty nice piece for a whopping $20!
P/N 8N0 862 531 A 6PS (black, other colors available).
he talks about it on this page, where he shows the OEM cupholder solution for the type 89: http://www.humanspeakers.com/audi/cupholder-90.htm

gave it to him for xmas and was proud of my research to find them.
Too bad we don't have that little center "well" thingy in the 4k's because that mod works really nicely.

I bought a couple of adjustable cup holders and mounted them to blocks of 2X4 that press-fit into the door pockets. fits any size cup and can sit anywhere along the pocket. just make a small goove in the 2X4 where it meets the inner surface of the pocket itself and it'll hold any size beverage securely.

You know it is a true yuppie car when there are no cupholders anywhere in the vehicle, denoting its status as a true driving machine as drinks will detract from driving..... but.... a grande sized Starbucks fits perfectly into the map-pocket in the door.
