CV Joint Popping
Whenever I turn to the right it sounds like the right side pops when I drive. Obviously I need a new CV joint.
Here is my problem. I've read that it's the opposite side of the sound that is the problem joint. So if I hear it on the right, the left needs to be replaced.
Now the left side outer joint has the boot ripped in half (that way when I bought it) So I would assume it's the one needing replacement. But it's strange that the sound sounds like it's coming from the right. So how can you confirm which side needs the replacement?
Thanks.

I've always replaced the one that sounds like it is popping and not paid any sense ....
to the direction I turn. Since you have a torn boot that has to be fixed it is obvioulsy the suspect one. Even if the one with the torn boot is not bad now,it soon will be if any dirt has gotten in (or grease out). Unless torn boots are caught early the joint is usualy a write off.
My 2 cents

Re: CV Joint Popping
lift the car and grab the shaft with one hand and the hub or wheel with the other and check for excessive slop or play by rotating the wheel or hub while you hang onto the shaft
