dash lights revisited...

I thought my dash/console lights had all somehow blown, or something serious went bad. Had them all working one day and the next, nothing.
Well, by accident I turned off my lights and instead of the quick turn to off, I paused iin the middle at the parking lights. all the dash and console lit up.
So basically when I go to parking lights they work and headlights they don't. Ironically this is a new headlight switch because the last on would turn off the taillights when I turned it all the way on the headlights.
I assume its probably another bad switch???

will cause trouble. it's weird how it's all connected. a loose wire or broken wire someplace could be causing the problem. it could be a bad switch, but if it's new, i would lean towards wiring.

Test, don't guess!
Disconnest the switch from the car.
Get your (ohm or continuity) meter out, and test the switch for continuity between he contacts when operated in all of it's positions.
When the parking lights are on, all the 4 'small' terminals in a row shold be connected together (and all of them should stay connected together when the headlights are on).
Of those 4 small terminals, one is power in (red), and the rest are outputs. One each for each side of the car parking lights, and one for dash lights.
Or.. Take you test light, and probe the 4 small terminals when the dash lights are supposed to be on. All 4 small terminals should be live when parkign lights are on. Only look to wiring if all 4 are live..
It's possible that only 2 or 3 of the 4 terminals are making good connection, depeding on where you position the ****, and resulting in no dash lights.
The flakey switch design is a good reason to relay the parking lights.. :-)
When the headlights are on, the two big terminals should be connected together.
If not as above, something is up with the switch.
(the small 'odd' terminal by the big terminals is the ground for the light in the switch)
