I think it would still be a good idea to set the motor at TDC, since you will be dealing with the timing belt tension. You cant be too safe!
Undo PS pump slack on PS belt and move it out of the way so you can remove the upper timing belt cover.
Remove upper timing belt cover via 2 allen type screw thingies.
You will also have to remove the lower timing cover IIRC.
Next remove the lower timing belt cover. This will let you remove the rear most cover, but you have to remove the camgear to do this.
Release tension on the timing belt via water pump, then you can safely remove the camgear.
Once the camgear is off you can remove the rear cover and then the water pump.
In all honesty its been 3 years since I did a timing belt job with limited access. I recall not taking the cam gear off and slipping the water pump out with the back cover still on? Actually, now that I remember, the PO of my car hacked apart the rear cover to just get the water pump out. So you may have to remove the back timing cover. There are alot of other parts you may want to replace, depends on your budget and mileage of those parts though.
Hope this helps a bit. I added a picture from last summer when I did my swap. Top timing cover removed.
