So I have a friend in France who is willing to search the wrecking yards for e-code lighting for me but we are having trouble identifying which year and model audi will be compatible with my '86 4k. He doesn't know audis well and the differences in model nomenclature between N America and Europe is complicating matters. Any help in European model names and years would be appreciated!

The most popular setup would be the slant headlights found in 85> cars. Prior to 85, the headlights are flat faced, and would require you to get the flat grill as well. The H4 single bulb setup has larger lenses and better vision on low beam IMO, but the H4/H1(H3) has better high beam vision, and tends to look cleaner on the car. He will also need to grab you the mounting bracket hardware for any ecode light you choose to go with.

Any of these ecode lights will fit the type 85 80. The most success would probably come from a coupe GT fwd. Audi made a lot of these cars....

The euro 90, cgt, coupe quattro, and UrQuattro all got the single piece H4/H1.
I got my euros off a cgt in a yard in Germany when I was there in 03. I knew to get the mounting brackets, but forgot to ask for the trims. I've got the flat lamps, and the lower trims are NLA new, so I had to find them in the used market once I was back in the US. Sloped euro lamps use the same upper and lower trims as the US market lights.

rusted out and broken adjusting parts are common on the lights found in the bone yards over there (BTDT) so have your friend get spare parts from the dealer over there if they are still available. The parts are specific to the manufacturer's name on the lights. It should cost about 45 Euro for the shipping. I do have a brand new set of Hella's (single bulb H4) I will be putting on the marketplace this weekend.

There is some other stuff people here might want (although it isn't cheap to ship). I'm looking for a rear fog light switch for 85-87 cars (hey that's cheap to ship), and the front bumper rebar+mounts, turn signals, and fog lights. (big and not cheap to ship) Finding the rear euro plate center light bar likely isn't going to happen as only the rare Audi 90 came with that setup.
Other goodies could be of interest too like, headlight washer setup (nozzles, some hose, a harness, and a tank) and for the real adventurist, a complete ABS system (involves pulling pump, harness, sensors, outer CVs, controller, not for the faint of heart). All of the above we never got in the US.

I found a guy in germany who found me new H1/H4's for about $250 a light, but he finds use headlights mostly. Decently priced, usually $225 per used set.
Let me know if you are interested in his contact info.
