Default failed inspection - loud exhaust

what a load of bull. was there at 9am and they failed me for my "loud exhaust system". the guy told me the computer does the test, however there isn't a decibel reading anywhere on the paper or a decibel number that it should be at or lower. granted, my exhaust (2.25" stainless manifold back) is louder than stock, but it is not anything people are calling cops about.

what should I do? bring it to a local station and pay to have it "inspected" and passed? or should I bring it to the muffler place that I got my system and have something installed to make it pass at the DMV?

Also my NOx levels were right below standard, anything I can do to bring this number down?

Only 3 more years and then I'm done with this bull. QQ plates here I come!

look up the noise laws for exhausts in your area and see if you really are too loud...

Default High NOx is from running lean..

The noise level is a buch of bull ****!!
I order to accuratley measure it you have to have a decibel meter (set on "A" weighting).
If you want to find out how loud your car is, Radioshack has a very good meter (I used to work as an audio engineer and I used it all the time).<ul><li><a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&amp;product%5Fid=3 3%2D2050">SPL meter</a></li></ul>

Default thats really dumb...

Your car sounds GOOD, not too LOUD. I know it first hand. What about the morons with their rice pips, they sound BAD and quite often too loud. J's car is louder than yours also, dont think they failed him. Maybe you should take it to somewhere else. Wouldnt they rather want the business though, than have you get annoyed and go elsewhere? Oh well. Also about the NOX, #1 way on the older Audis to reduce NOX is retard the timing a bit. We have done it on 3 5 cylinder engines already, and cut the numbers in half. When you are done with the inspection you may leave it if you like the loss of power. If not, you can even advance it a bit from stock. Just mark with a punch where it is from stock though.

Your car is an 81! My 85 Coupe has one more year of this and then it is over 20yrs and I dont have to take in for emmissions anymore! I am even debating paying the 200 bucks and skipping it knowing I wont have to go back.
