Default Found my coolant leak...

After I got home from work, I decided to quickly look under the car for coolant, since Ive noticed some at the VERY rear of the engine. I see a few drips, and take my chances at catching the coolant leak in action, and I was successful. It was leaking from this "thing", onto the gearbox housing, and finally onto the ground. What the hell is this thing, and why does it leak coolant? The hoses on each end are fine, and I have noticed some liquid on top, which you can barely see, but I put my hand underneath, smelled it, and its coolant, of course. Now, the real question is again, what is it, and how much is this gonna cost? Any BTDT?

That is the heater control for the interior of the car. I have found that mine usually breaks inside and I have full heat all winter and then nothing in the summer. I used that to open and close hose for the heater core.

Default Yup heater control valve...

Good thing it didn't go catastrophically like those can sometimes.
Call up rod at the parts connection and order one.
They're not very expensive at all. I think that when I replaced mine, it was about $10.

Should only take a few minutes to change too!

Good Luck!

Default Thank god...and...

As I was walking downstairs, I was banging my head trying to think what that thing was for, then it hit me. I was like "Ok, the hose eventually goes into the interior, so its something with the heater, and the cable probably limits the coolant flow into/out of the cabin for the heater." I guess I was right, but at first I had no clue, thanks guys!

Default Yes, but it is different.

Ours are vacum actuated. Yours looks cable driven...
