yup, that bigger threaded hole actually allows you to put a bolt in to break...
the pulley loose from the oil pump housing... that's a lot easier than using a pulley puller, esp for how tight of a space it's in!

So, most likely the oil pump gasket...
or at least I'll need to remove the oil pump. Looks like the oil pan may need to be dropped as well, or can I get to it with the pan on?

newp, unfortunately the oil pan needs to get dropped...
because the oil pickup tube is attached to the oil pump inside the oil pan...

and this gasket is most likely your culprit:

and while you're in there, take out the oil temp sensor and make sure that the float in there (see pic) is free to move around. I had to R&R my oil pump and swap out a 'new' one because the channel mine went into was warped causing that relief valve to jam, resulting in zero oil pressure.

You'll need a new oil pan gasket, oil pump gasket, oil pick up tube to oil pump gasket and front crank seal.
When you install the bolts again into the pump, put a lil RTV on the ones that penetrate into the block to help ensure that everything is sealed.

Yes but...... very high temp and seals much better than RTV.
Toyota will know exactly what you are looking for. I will never use RTV again. This stuff is so much better and I dont worry about leaks.

it's not that bad of a job in all honesty...
took me like 2 hrs to R&R the pump, but I also have a LOT easier access to the front of the motor due to my turbo swap and the whole front of the car cut open :-P
Not to mention, all the seals were less than a few thousand miles old, so everything popped apart nicely.
DOn't forget to clean all the surfaces to bare metal again before putting a new gasket on (I'm sure you know this, but figured I'd say it anyway). Also, I wouldn't use any RTV (or the like) to hold down the seal... just the bolts.

Is this gasket a common leak? i.e. should I replace it while the motor is out of my car?
I don't remember this as an issue in the past but when I was messing with these cars last they were 5-10 years newer.

Thanks. I ordered the parts last night, should be here by the weekend.
Since I didn't put everything back together, it should be fairly quick to get it all off again.
I think the time consuming part will be cleaning the areas of the engine - it's extremely coated with oil in places.
