Front right CV joint replacement

Okay. After 10 hours. (literally) I got the axle in and the car is drivable. I ran in to a lot of problems during the process of removal...
First off. I did not have a correct socket for the axle nut, or the tool for separating the ball joint...that meant I needed to go shopping for some tools. After I got the wheel off, along with the heat shield I ran in to a problem with getting the CV axle's retaining bolts off of the transmission. They where torque bits. Not the expected Allen key type. With no torque type tools I was able to remove one of the six bolts. I stripped out two more and couldn't get them out. I tried the"easy out" tool which literally wore out faster than the bolts I was trying to get loose. I then tried vice grips with no success. I finally got the correct torque sockets and was able to remove 3 more of the bolts. That's 4 out of 6 bolts. Two of which are stripped out. I ended up getting an electric disc grinder and cutting the ends of the stripped bolts. The old CV axle came free. It's destroyed. You will see when I upload the pictures...
Now, I got the new remanufactured axle in, but it's not fitted right. The gasket is miss aligned, and it's being held in by only 4 bolts until I can order more. Very disappointed with my work. It didn't help that there was a heat wave mid day either.

Sounds like you were working on an old Audi... 
I've had worse, but it's definitely satisfying when it gives you trouble and you finally get it done.

eh whats some new bolts? no biggie. haphazard progress is better than no progress at all. . . and the older the car, the more distructive disassembly you will see.

I tell you though. It sure is nice to be able to turn in to a bend without babying the throttle. No more knocking or clicks. Half way through the job a brush fire broke out in the neighbors back yard. Me and my grandfather knocked it down by half before the fire department arrived. Interesting day
