Front strut question
I've got a spare pair of strut assemblies I'm r&ring to go in the cgt.
When I opened them up they were full of oil, like the forks on a bike.
When I put the Boge carts. in am I supposed to put oil in too?

Re: Front strut question
This two questions?
While Carter says oil on the strut piston is a leak, some car buffs put oil into strut assembly to help disapate heat from the shock insert operation.
Your WOULD NOT Do this with Bilstein's........
and I'd say the amount of oil is small so you can seat the cartredge insert.
Inserts should leak no oil AFAIK.

Were they the 'original inserts'?
When you remove the original shocks, you get all sorts of oil, as the shocks actually work IN the strut tube, as opposed to repacement strut cartridges, that are self contained.
You can tell if they are the original shocks, as you can see the 'insides' of them, and all the bits and how they work. For the originals, it's normal to have oil loose inside.
But for a sealed 'replacement' cartridge, not much oil CAN be outside of it. But even then, somone may have dropped some oil in when installing the cartridge. That's supposed to conduct heat from the replacement cartridge to the outer tube. Are you supposed to do that too? Depends on the MFG recomendations I'd suppose...
