Which is the F.P. relay on a '85 4000Q and how do you tell if it's the right one for a 5 cylinder? The engine doesn't seem to want to go over 4,000 RPM. These are the ones in the box; #2 Fan, #3 Control unit, gearshift consumption indicator, #5 Relief, #7 Horn, #9 Wiper, #10 Manifold pre heater, K-Jetronic, #11 A/C, F. circulating pump.

someone was talking about that yesterday and it seems to be a common problem. a fuel pump relay from a 4 cyl in your 5 cyl will shut you down at 4k rpm. scroll down and check it out

Plus every time you bang it up to max rpms it gets their easier next time!
Make sure you have the "correct" FP relay for your car, or you engine could be cutting out earlier inside the rpms then it should! ;O)

i had the fuel pump relay problem and mine wasnt labeled either. there arent too many relays in the box, just find the one with either a 4 or 5 cyl part#. then you know right away if its bad. but the relay simply lowers the rev limiter to about 4300rpm. itll rev fine everywhere else but it just cuts out and bumps against 4300. if you have other idling problems the fp relay might not be your solution
