Default Whoa!

Mine came all assembled in one unit, it also has a nice black finish and a brass bleeder. Came in a red FTE branded box. There should be a brass retaining ring that goes over the narrow end of the boot as well.

Default Ok, see the circlip in the pic? It would seem I need to remove that for the piston to work...

does that make sense? I hate this...

Default The spring clip is only hand tight , you should be able to completely pull that out to get to the

roll pin

The slave just needs to be put together, the rubber boot will hold the rod in place

Default The new slave...

Has a circlip in the 2nd picture from the top. Does that circlip say or go? It should be removed so the piston can move forward, correct?

The clip thats on the transmission just yanks out? Or does it go all the way through the roll pin? We got the wheels off and it looks easy to drive out, hopefully.

Default I believe it stays....

It holds the cylinder in place. You should be able to compress it without a problem. Glue holds the wide part of the boot to the housing.

Default Re: Here's the new slave...why is it in pieces?

The circlip holds the piston in the cylinder. You mean the pushrod just sits in there loose? I don't see how taking the circlip out will make any difference. The rod may just sit in there...though that's maybe not how the factory made it.

Default Alright Dwightster :P

Thats good news. Now, is the boot/pushrod assembly supposed to be sorta wobbly?
It seems that if there was pressure exerted that the shaft may slide out of its groove.

Maybe Im being paranoid but Ive never messed with a slave cylinder that wasnt put together prior to getting it.

So it should be good to go? No clips have to go on either end of the boot?

Default Small end has a brass ring on mine....

there is some play in the shaft, I think that cir clip is to prevent the hydraulic piston from overextending. I think the notched part of the shaft is the outer end and the boot slips on there. Don't know if a tiny zip tie will fit, it doesn't seem to be a high pressure area. You can just about see that brass ring in the picture.

Default You stole my piktar :P

Thats right, there is a small clip on that end. Wonder what happens if there is no clip there? There is an indentation in the shaft for the boot and it slides over each end nicely, we were just worried about the play in the shaft.

Default Sounds like you have it figured..

Circlip keeps the slave piston from coming out too far. In normal operation, the piston will be forced further in by the clutch mechisim.

Boot keeps rod in place when assembling, with groove for boot tip. Once assembled, clutch will keep a bit of pressure on the rod, so it won't fall out of place.

IF not too late, remember to 'neverseize' (or grease) the outside of the slave, and the roll pin to aid possible future removal.

Good luck bleeding!
