Got a close look at the new S4 yesterday
Carter Tyson, the service manager At Rector motors in Burlingame gave myself and another curious audi owner a closer look at one of the S4's. That 4.2 Litre V8 is something to gaze upon squeezed inside that engine bay. There is literally no room for anything else in there!!!
The black recaro seats front and back are also very sporty. Nice looking interior with the new grey woodgrain accents. The "onstar" fin is optional and for me would take some getting used to.
I think Carter said $63,000 was the sticker price.

yeah, but it's for a good cause ;-)
audi has their head stuck up its @$$ because theyre trying to compete with the M3. this car is built to compete performance wise, luxury wise and mainly price wise. This S4 is supposed to open the eyes of former BMW owners who previously said "pfft, 6 cylinders..." although i liked the older one better, change is good. i'm sure this one will knock the pants off you sooner than the previous one! But i guess it can be summed up as More buck for the bang...

Why would M3 owners scoff at a 6-cyl?
The M3 is, after all, fitted with an inline six. They put the B5 S4 against the E36 M3, where it held its own quite well but wasn't quite the sports car the M was, even though the BMW's interior couldn't hold a candle to the S. By all accounts, the new S equals or betters the E46 M in all categories except 0-60, in which it's 1/10th sec slower. But, I digress. Take a trip over to the B6 S4 board. Apparently, some of them are having some pretty frightening problems with their cars. Maybe in a year or two I'll pick the B6, but for now, the B5 still wins my heart.

Yeah, turbo issues mostly...
Audi has had a lot of complaints when it comes to the turbo's in the S4. Also I was under the impression the M3 had an 8cylinder, my mistake.
As for the interiors, in not quite sure what you mean by 'hold a candle to the S' but in almost all models compared, the BMW interiors were found to be much more luxorious than the audi's. And i have to admit, I find Audi interiors too bland. Function before form i suppose.
