The rear deck wires are green I think. Possibly brown.

Default Back in the days.. I built a 4th order box for a jetta.

I installed car stereo for a couple of years while in college. Pretty much did custom boxes and the larger systems.

Anyways, this particular box sounded great and very efficient. We aligned the ports of the box to match up with the speaker openings on the rear deck. No cutting was required.

4th order box is the type with two chambers and the speakers are mounted on the dividing wall. The front chamber is ported and the rear chamber is sealed. In this box, we used a three chamber setup with the central sealed chamber showing with a lexan window. The drivers were facing backwards. Bringing the bass in at the rear corners of the car's interior is alot like putting subs in the corner of a room. Adds even more low end.

Anyways, thought that might be useful. I'm an middle-age tone deaf guy who listens to AM radio now.. :-D

Default Like this box?

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/46543/2x12_inch_subs.jpg"></center><p>You can sorta see the second subs' outer ring through the near side port(circled in red).
Is this box also a 4th order? Is it considered a bandpass type box also?
Right now it's under my coffe table until I finish my car.

Default Yep.

Yes thats a 4th order. A 5th order would be the same with an active crossover.

Its a bandpass box, but not a high order bandpass like a 6th or 7th meaning the bandpass effect is minimal. In fact the sealed 2nd chamber means there is no reduction in subsonic performance list a standard ported box or a high order boxes.

The ports were single larger diameter/longer ports firing straight up through the rear deck factory speaker holes.

Default Aren't bandpass boxes very limted in range? Basiclly good for lots of boom, but little accuracy?

i know they are VERY efficient withing that short range, but the limited range would worry me. Why have lots of 4-80hz boom and nothing else?

Default yes and no

For cars they're ideal cause they're compact and efficient. They do have limited range but within their range their response characteristics can be very good. Not the best, but not bad by any means. Anything that is poorly designed will just "boom." The higher the order, the harder it is to get "it" right. I prefer the 4th order bandpass for cars since it doesn't filter out the subbass like a 6th order and up box.

I personally don't like them for home systems. I prefer low order boxes like infinite baffles and large sealed boxes for home use where space and power efficiency don't matter that much.
