Default Head Question

I can get a complete WK (early 5kt) head (162xxx kms) for $125...head, cam, distributor, cam cover etc. I know it will fit my WE block, but what is the advantage? Could I expect to see appreciable HP gains? He won't sell the cam separately, that's what I was after initially. Any thoughts?

Are you sure that the water jackets align and are the same?

Positive. As a matter of fact, the head gasket I bought has the following engine codes listed as applicable applications:
WH, WN, 1.5l I5
DY, KE, KG, KH, KJ, KK, KL, GV, WB, WC, WE, WJ, WK, WR and WS, 2.2l I5.
Ironically, I took the time to look some of these engine codes up. There are diesels, normally aspirated and turbo mills that all use the same gasket. Based on that, I am certain that the two heads are compatible with the block. Just to be sure, I compared the 2 on Friday night. They look identical, too my eyes anyway!!

Default WE Code

After experiencing the problem of the past couple days, I'm not certain I want to say for sure there is only 1 WE code style engine (head). Both heads I have are definitely solid lifter units, but I still do not understand why the cams were not standardized between the two. So to answer your question, I require the shorter, solid lifter cam! I'm sorry, I know that is an awfully vague answer. DDG, can you shed some light??

Default Re: WE Code

No doubt that the early WE heads in 4000 are different and the casting is only off by a the letter C verses an H on my 83 coupe.

Cool. But I would give blau or someone a ring before I made the swap. The hydro lifters means no more adjustments....

Good luck

P.S. I have to pull my head since I have a broken stud and so I picked up a gasket set also.
Same deal, brand is elring and it says DY, KE, ..............WE.
