try some wd-40 and some adjustable vice grips. Get the grips on there real tight and just apply steady and gradual torque. It should eventually bite down, even if its rounded off.

If all else fails you'll have to get a set of nut removers from the parts store. They look like a socket but they have teeth inside that grip the bolt head harder the more you turn it (sort of an inside-out screw remover). Use with an impact wrench for maximum torque.

ill check menards has some socket that grips down on that stuff, but the real issue is i have like an 1/8" to grab and its the 17mm allen head thats recessed that rounded,

the grips kept slipping and i had them as tight as i could squeeze, but ill go find those socket that bite down

Oooooh, I see what bolt you're talking about now. I read drain plug and thought it was like the oil pan one. I've had issues with the drifferential\transmission ones as well. In the end I was able to use vise grips, but if you're having trouble with that I'll have to think of some other options as there might not be enough sticking out for the bolt removers...

I too have had problems with those damned allen/torx/whatever bolts while replacing an axel. Every single one stripped out. The insides just crummbled away. What I did was I took my Dremel with the "cut-off wheel" attached and cut a big slit in every one, right in the middle of the head. Then I took a big flat head screwdriver and stuck in the slit the long way (not straight in like a screw) but on the side so I could use it like a big handle and just pull straight down on them. Took a little time, but worked like a charm!

good idea! never thought of utilising a cutting tool. im using that if i run in to any other stuck bolts. (if all the other tools dont work)
