Default HELP!! Low oil press!!

Getting "the buzzer". When the cars warm, the bar reads at 0 bar, goes up to 2-3 if I punch it, then back to 0, reads <1 when in 3rd at 25mph....then I get buzzer action. If I let off the gas it goes off. Car has plenty of oil. Don't tell me my friggin pump is bad...that's the last thing I need. Would a loose wire or faulty sending unit cause this? Is the buzzer linked to the same unit as the gauge is? I flipping pissed...Man, what ever I did, the Audi Gods are getting even.

Default ouch - it sounds like you actually may have a problem

iirc the buzzer/gauge part of the sender are separate components insided the one unit... This means that if your buzzer AND gauge are saying that you have low oil pressure - I'd think you have low oil pressure...

Yes, the buzzer will sound if the connection to the sending unit is bad, or if you have a bad sending unit. Can you beg/borrow/steal a manual oil pressure gauge to screw into the block where the sending unit is ? That is the only way to tell what your oil pressure is doing.

I permanently installed a manual gauge in my 4K for a similar reason. If you want to do that, you'll need T adapter , VDO 240 850D so you can connect both manual and electrical gauges.

Good luck

Default Changed your oil lately? Using a Mann/Mahle filter?

If you haven't changed your oil lately, try that first.

If your using a filter that is Orange or Green in color get it the f--- off your car ASAP. The internal baffling on most FLAPS (friendly local auto parts store) filters cannot handle the pressure Audi motors make. They can very easily cause low oil pressure situations.

Try to use only Mann/Mahle/Audi filters.

Good luck, I hope this solves your problem.

Default I use Bosch filters

I also read a technical service bulletin saying that there's a high press switch too...anyone know about this?

Default Here's what I would do before the panic turns into paranoia

Go down to the local hardware, equipment, industrial supply, NAPA, etc. Buy a 24" flexible grease gun hose. These come with 1/8" pipe thread fittings at each end and are good to like 3,000psi. By a generic 0-160psi pressure gauge for about $10.00 with an 1/8" fitting, and using an 1/8" coupler, thread it onto the hose. Now you've got a nice test gauge that will fit nearly every car on the road.

Thread it finger tight into the Audi's oil pressure port and see what you've got. There's a low pressure switch on the oil fitler housing right? Use that because it's easy to get to.
