Default How much does the rear muffler reduce sound?

On my 86 4000csq the rear muffler (The one furthest back, right next to the tail pipe) Is full of rust holes. Completely rusted through. I had exhaust work done because the car started to sound like a Honduh with a fart can on it. Either the mechanic overlooked that rear muffler or he didnt think it was important to replace it. I may fill the thing with muffler putty or something or since I have access to a welder I may weld on a cheapo farm and fleet muffler. (If I can get it to fit) I just want to know if its worth it. The hole is probally 2 inches wide and and half an inch high.

Default I took mine out!!!

I had the same problem, so I removed the rear muffler entirely. I have yet to weld on pipes after the point in the tubing where I cut out the muffler. It sounds awesome!!! Almost sounds like a V8. I would say it is about as loud as my Neuspeed exhaust on my A4......

Default you know now as yo hve the holes

its cheap, try going with just a straight pipe from your midle resonator back, i think you will be pleasantly surprised
its nice and roaty but quite,,,,, until you floor it.
but you know it always sounds controlled. i like it
