How stiff is your clutch?
Also, someone told me that "a good clutch is easier to depress than a Honda or a VW."
True? If so, my clutch as been bad ever since I bought the car 3 years ago. Tt's quite a bit stiffer than the Mazda RX-7 or the 98 Passat I used to have. I've got the clutch kit waiting (got it for a song), but I don't want to replace the clutch intil it needs to be replaced. No signs of slipping, and only a little chattering.
Just trying to figure out if I should replace my clutch at the same time as the clutch master cylinder (see post a coupel of threads down)...

IMO a good clutch should push back some
I've driven so many newer cars where the clutch feels like the gas pedal!?! It's so mushy feeling that you can't feel where the cluch is grabbing and where it isn't. Even in my buddies 03 Golf the clutch is too light for my taste. He's driven my car and admited that he shifts cleaner and faster in my car... Just my .02. FWIW my clutch was replaced about 2 years ago.

My clutch feels like crap, and its new
The pedal feel is horrible, this all goes back to when the clutch master was replaced. It was perfect for a week, felt like a brand new car, sprung back perfect, etc. After I had the clutch master replaced it felt sloppy and you could (and still can) depress the clutch, lift your foot up quickly and the pedal will take a few seconds to pull up, when in reality it should follow your foot, no matter how fast you let up on it.
I think it needs another good bleeding.

I think even though it's a hydraulic system that the return rate can be adjusted.
Bleeding it again couldn't hurt either. What did you think of the feel of mine when you drove it?

OK, more to the point...
How SHOULD a good clutch feel on OUR cars? I know that I prefur a somewhat still clutch, but is that a sign of a clutch in proper working order on our cars? Or should it be light?

i think it should push back and catch low to the floor
at least that's how mine's been since the clutch was replaced... before that, the pedal shimmied left and right and didnt catch until near the end of the release...

Its been a while, and I forget :(
I still remember getting in the car after that thing was replaced the first time. I could actually for once, feel the friction point without guessing. Reminded me of how the TT in the showroom felt.
Oh well, I'll get it sorted out sometime.

I have been through 3 clutch changes on 3 different Audis...
and the tend to be light to start with and become heavier as they age. They generally don't get obnoxiously heavy but you'll have some effort to release it. If you are worried about your broken part, I don't think you should be. Just replace the part and go on with life.
