He told me to replace the Spark Plugs and the Cap and Rotor... he said they looked shady and he wants to see if that does anything.

Default Alright

Maybe you could get a photo of the old plugs/cap/rotor?

I had worked on a 4kq a few years back that wouldnt start, we tested alot of things and found the rotor to be toast. I know your car runs fine when warm, but still.

I wish I knew more about CIS so I could be of more help. Its the elementary things in Audi ownership that get me

Did you check to see if you had the "economizer" fuel pump relay I posted a few days back?

It won't help starting issues but will cut your car off in the 4000+ RPM range.

It took me a while to find this on my CGT, couldn't go past 4200 until I adjusted the relay.

Default replaced the rotor... the new one looks much cleaner.. the old one

had a buble on that darker part of the rotor... i dont know what you would call it but whatever... it wasnt too bad... just a small hole in the black part.

the new one looks good... but the car still doesnt start well.

did plugs too. checked the plug gap distance.. did it all right. car runs a little nicer bud doesnt start worth a damn

Default In the fuse box under the hood, on the drivers side of the car

should be the 4th fuse back ( from the front of the car) along the side where the fuses are plugged in. position # 10 IIRC.

The relay should be the highest or one of the highest out of all the relays and the side or top says something like "kracker AG" if it's the economizer type.

Here's my fix post from 4 years ago:

Account #: 40455

Just a disclaimer, I am not responsible for any damage you may do to your car or relays this is a description of what I did not an authorized repair procedure.Use this information at your own risk.

Enough said:
1. Pull out the # 10 fuel pump relay ( mine was manufactured by Kracker AG and had the writing "Kraftstoffpumpenrelais mit Drehzahlbegrenzung" )
2. Carefully open the relay by prying with a small screwdriver.

3. Locate the rev-limiter potentiometer.

4. Turn the white allen key side of the potentiometer clockwise just 1/8th of a turn with the small bladed screwdriver (or allen key if you feel like searching your tool box for the right size)

5. Close the relay, reinstall, and go kick the ricers butt that's been beating you off the line...

Hope this helps.
