idle problems
I've got a car that will start from a dead cold no problem....but it won't idle at all and after about a minute of me gas pedaling it if it dies it won't restart at all...
I changed the plugs, no help
will wires help?
or is this an idle control problem?
anyone ever have this happen?
car was getting harder and harder to start(when it was warm) over the last few days...then today I was coasting to a stop and it quit and wouldn't restart...let it sit for about an hour while I was in class and it fired right up again...but wouldn't idle and when I got home and killed the engine it wouln't fire again..

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem...
It can either be bad gas or you have low fuel pressure. Start by jumpering the fuel pump relay (make a jumper wire with two spade connectors and jumper the relay's large slots - its in the fuse box). If it runs with the jumper but not without, your pump is drawing too much current or the relay is bad and creating a voltage drop. Otherwise, you can consider the fuel filter or the accumulator as possible culprits for low fuel pressure. One other possible cause is the differential pressure regulator - that little gray box on the front of the FI set up. You can buy one used from Force5 for about $25 or just buy a whole fuel distrbutor for $40 or so and try swapping parts... you can also try replacing the o rings as well. Sorry for the hunt and swap approach. I am assuming you don't have the VAG FI tool or a fuel pressure gauge to help check out your system. Let us know how you make out...

Re: idle problems
try disconnecting the thermotime switch. its in the bottom of the water manifold. pull the plug and jumper the two pins together. this will turn off the cold start injector. Fixed my problem but I cant find a replacement.
