Default Im planning on adding some VDO gauges to my 84 4000Q,

does any one know of any write ups on it. I am going to get a voltage, oil temp and maybe a oil pressure gauge. I dont know yet if I need to get senders for these or if there is some already on the car that I need to tap into. Any help would be great. thanks

Default VDO gauge install = easy

you will need:

deep 24mm socket
Male & Female "ball" connecters
VDO gauges and gauge pod
2 prong sender for oil temp and pressure (bar)
14g wire to run from the bar prong on the new sender to the gauge.

The top sender is the one you will need to replace. sits on D side of the block next to the rad. (I suggest you swap this when motor is cold)

I don't have a shot of the back of the VDO gauges, sorry. I was in too much of a hurry to get mine in.
This is a shot of the female connector you will need. I think you need 2 males and 3 females. The factory vdo gauges come equipped with these for easy disconect.

Heres a shot of what the wires look like coming from your 2 digi gauges. The bently tells you the color, but you don't need it. it's the same colors on the VDO gauges plus an extra blue for the Bar gauge. Once you get the VDO gauges you'll see what i mean.

You don't need a meter. I only had mine handy cause my red lights wouldn't light up on my factory digi gauges. I checked them and had 12v power and continuity(ohms) to the ground. Just hooked em up and wala. I just musta had a bad unit.

I just did this saturday so it's still fresh in my mind if ya have any questions. I can get ya a shot of the sender if you'd like. I have a spare, but can't find it at the moment.

Default I thought that gauges were standard in '84's.

Mine is an "S" model, has them in it. Did the PO remove them?
