As a club, restore it, raffle it off and donate the procedes to charity
Back in the 70's I belonged to a custom van club and we customized a 64 Chevy panel van and registered a raffle with the money going to the local pregnant teenage girl home.
Huge community support, although some folks thought we were crude, but we ended up handing over around $30K one sunny summer afternoon. Giant presentation cheque - speeches, the whole works.
After that our van club rolled pretty easy around town, fewer police & traffic situations, fewer vandal issues and many more young teenage girls waved at us.
A little community activity can yeild many positive results for car clubs.

totally agree. you can still find all the parts to get it going.
If you can't find it on www.autohauseaz or worldimpex.com then someone on here will have the part you need.
Id hate to see it thrown away, definately consider getting it on the track. Thats where I hope to be next summer with mine.

Here's mi $.02 as briefly as possible.....
Drop in a 2.3L NF (ported if possible), Blau cam, 4000q exhaust, lightend flywheel (use your old one from the "WE" engine) , Ditch the A/C, move the battery to the trunk,
More supportive seat, 4 or 5 point harness, coilovers(mandatory)w/Koni sports, same rate springs front and rear(300lb springs minimum), 4000q front bar (1") find a rear bar the same size: 1", urethane a-arm bushings, aluminum subframe bushings, adj. strut mounts if you can afford them (you need minimum -2deg camber to run on the track), '88 16v Scirocco front an rear brakes are a blot on, they'll give you bigger front diameter and discs in the rear, I'd also upgrade to an '85 and later master cyl. (larger dia.) and vacuum booster
You car will weigh a hair over 2400lbs on an empty tank.
Here's some links to Huw Powells website it'll take you WEEKS to read all the info!!!
