Default Just came back from the salvage yard.

I found 3 4k's and 4 5k's sitting in the yard. One of the 4k's is the exact color as mine, and the body is in better shape. (yahoo, parts car!)

My question is this, do the 5000 door handles fit the 4000? I need two rear ones and none of the 4k's have them anymore.

Thanks

Which yard did you go to? Pick a part on the west side was usually very good for prices.

Default If I were you, I'd check the 5000's to see if any have an "NF" engine, if so, yank the head!!!

If you have a 5cyl it's a great performance bolt on, or I'm sure some members would love to buy it from you!!!!

Serial # is on the block between and just below spark plugs 2 and 3:

Default What's the point of it?

I was wondering what is the point of the head swap? Higher compression? Two of them were Turbo motors, but someone pulled the turbo from them.

What kind of gains would I get?

Can the swap be done by a "weekend mechanic"? (me)

What am I looking for in the serial number?

Thanks (now you peaked my interest!)

[EDIT]
I just did some searching and found most of my qiestions, but I was wondering, what is the average price I can expect to pay for one of these from the yard? (ballpark)

Thanks

Default part numbers differ for 5K door handles

4Ks/CGTs share front door handles with the 80-83 5Ks but have a different part number vs the newer 5000s. Watch Ebay for new door handles for the rear. they come up regularly for under $20.

Default if you have an '85 or later 4000Q or coupe it's an easy swap!!!

The "NF" head has bigger (40mm) intake valves, bigger ports and more aggrsive cam timing!
depending on your exhaust setup you should pick up 15-20hp!!
Click on my link at the bottom of the page labled: "engine codes and cam specs" for more info!!

Default I have an '87 2.2l

Just phoned the yard, they said $30 for a head. Seems like a good price to me.

Default Anything else usable from a 5K?

Since I'm going there, I was wondering if there is anything else engine related that'll be an easy swap?

Thottle body? (if there is any difference?)
Intake or Exhaust manifold?
Coil?
etc?

I'm looking for power producing parts.

Thanks everyone.
