Default Lights that don't

I am having problems with my instrument panel lights and my dome light, neither one of them works. I took off the instrument hood and found what lookes like the aftermath of a dashboard fire. All the gauges work fine only the dash lights and dome light are out. Could this be the dimmer switch for the dash lights? Could it be fried? Anyone out there got one? HELP (and thanks in advance)

Default My dimmer was toast.

When I first got my 4ks, none of my cluster/gauge lights worked either. But my dome did. Anyways for the cluster lights on mine the problem was the dimmer switch. I pulled it our of the cluster and pulled it apart and found that the contacts were all melted together.

I picked up a used one from a salvage yard for a couple of bucks and no everytyhing works.

To test to see if this is your problem, you can start by "jumping" the contacts on the rear of the switch. You'll want to bridge to the wires so it bypasses the dimmer completely.

If everything works after this, then you know the problem. But I would start by swapping in good bulbs first.

Default A common problem>>>

When the switch fries itself, - on mine anyway- the problem was on the ground wiring. Had the same prob as you, however had massive fried wiring all thruout the harness, and ended up re-wiring the whole dash's ground circuitry

The lights you speak of are all on the same circuit in my '84.

I got a new switch from ForceFive for ten dollah american.
