Default loosing power

was traveling at around 140 km/t when i could feel the engine starting to sputter.

gradually the speed went down to 110 km/t and after a few more km down to 50-70.

If pushing the accelrator harder it would shake/jump real hard. Alot of noise (roar as normal) but no power to pull the car.

Feels like fuel starvation.

Finally she died when i depressed the clutch, but after a few seconds of standstill it came back fine, only for a few minuts.

I managed to drive the car home over by starting/stopping the engine a number of times.

Rotor, dizzycap, plugs, wires are all brand new, as i thought this was the problem initally. It will start instantly at the first crank.

Now im more leaning towards a clogged fuel filter, as the method of switching the ignition off/on will cause the fuel pump tp run for a few secs, and this might be giving enough fuel for the few minuts driving i can get.

Or perhaps the pump itself is dying on me, or the pre filter could be bad.

The main filter was changed about 3 years ago. Pump and pre filter has to my knowlegde never been changed (at least not for the last 7 years of my ownership)

Funny thing is, that is was a 45 min. drive, and it was running ok for the first 30 min, at the next day, when started up from stone cold she was running perfect.

Perhaps its the injectors, and then it would be running ok with the fuel from the CSV until hot?

suggestions appriciated

Default I am guessing filter/pump too

As the pump is getting warm, it is pooping out.

But in any case, if it starts right up and then dies, that usually spells starvation as you said.

Not a bad idea to check the air metering plate too.

Default I'm not familiar with the european anti-smog stuff. Is there a catalitic converter?

I had similar problems & it turned out that a ball of the ceramic core was rolling around inside. when the engine reved-up it would block the exaust. Shut it off & restart and It would idle ok until I used the accelerator again then it would loose power & hesitate.
