Default Low side / High side on AC??

Does any1 know where the low side and the high side is on the AC system in a 84 Audi 4000?

One more thing... "Do not install in a vacuume" ...what is this about? System must be free of air?

Thanks

The low side (low pressure) is the large pipe (gas in it), the high side, (high presure is the small pipe (liquid it in)

You have to give us some context about " do not istall in a vacuume" bit to help us anser this one . however it is normal to purge a an AC (at least a residential or commercial one I've never done a car with nitrogen or vacuume pump it to get moisture out before charging it with refrigerent.

Ok but where is it exactly? The one by the radiator is high pressure? Or is it the one on the inlet to the compressor (the left side under the air filter)?

The "do not install in a vacuum" is on the refrigerant can

Thanks again

High side = near radiator; low is by the compressor.

this is a guess mind you but it probably means don;t charge the ac on the suction (gas) side of the compressor because if it gets a shot of liquid refrigerant from the bottle, the compressor will be ruined if it tries to compress a liquid... therefore charge on the high pressure side.

anybody got better information?

On the can of ENVIRO-SAFE it says... "charge on the low side"...i'll try that tomorrow. Hopefully everything works...

Thanks for all the help.
