Default Megasquirt EFI

Has anyone messed around with this DIY EFI system?

http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

I'm thinking of putting it on a turbo MC motor (with the earlier urq style intake manifold).
My question is: How do you fit a fuel rail and injectors under the manifold? Looks easy enough on a 4k NA manifold (more room) but sure looks tight on a turbo manifold.

I understand that you can swap the 'injector seats' to a newer style to support EFI injectors, so that part seems easy enough. But the fuel rail & injectors bit.. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Default Re: Megasquirt EFI

I bought a couple kits but haven't assembled them or anything. One way to go is to get a KH intake manifold from a 84-85 5kt, which has a round throttle body. You can source a fuel rail from 034efi.com, and the injector seat things are from a Digifant Golf.

Oh wait, if you have the urq manifold you're set. I believe it is the same as the KH one, except perhaps for the location of the temp sensor.

I have an MC-1 and a couple of Coupe GT's. I think I ought to get started on a swap into one of them. It would at least get the motor off the stand so I could get into some of the other projects I have.

I need to get to the welding shop and buy some cable, then I can relocate the battery and remove the tray, which would give me some inspiration to swap motors.

Default Are there gains to be had by adding this EFI setup to a non turbo?

Or are they just not worth the $ and effort?

Thanks

Default I think there could be.

I haven't heard of anyone doing it tho', yet.

I also think it would be cool to strip out the engine bay and get rid of the fuel distributor.

Considering the cost of replacement rubber boots and such (which I don't know), it seems like "going modern" with efi would have other benefits as well.

If I had an n/a car running megasquirt, I'd really be tempted to put a turbo on it.

Default CSRALLY on the motorgeek site has done it and seems happy with it...

reported increased power... and improved throttle response.... although hea used the 034efi system the results would be the same

Well..

If you are doing a turbo conversion on a 4K, using a MC motor, going EFI makes the problem of where to put the 5K CIS unit not a problem anymore.
On a 4K, there's no easy place to fit everything CIS from a 5K CIS, unless you do some fancy plumbing, or cut out the inner fender.
If you go EFI, all that CIS junk is GONE! Just an aircleaner into the turbo intake. Lots more room to keep the turbo cool. And mappable fueling!

Even on a NA motor, EFI is supposed to make for better response. And there's a Yahoo group specifically for Megasquirt & VAG products.
