This might be kind of a dumb question, but can I use a BAR Oil Pressure Sender...

with a PSI Pressure gauge?
I'm thinking that the scales are going to be off, and thus give me a wrong reading... am I wrong?
I picked up a VDO Oil Pressure gauge (reads PSI) off ebay for real cheap, and my buddy had an extra pressure sender he gave me. When I was looking it over though I noticed that it said 0-5 BAR on the side of it :-\
Thanks guys! Hopefully next weekend I can get it all installed on the 4000 and start trouble shooting my low oil pressure light issue. Too bad I'm going to have to do the motor mounts on the A4 too... grr. I think it knows about the 4000 and is trying to take up all my time so I can't fix the 4000... whuddaya think? =P

guage.
Bar or PSI is just a scale printed on the side or the face. In your case the sender is designed to deal with pressures of 0-5 bar or aprox 0-75 psi. That does not tell you if the signal matches that of the guage.

because the the resistance is probably going to be off b/n the gauge and the sender... am I getting that right?

Or at least from the same mfg.
Otherwise, they may not work with each other.
I'd imagine the sender for both gauges would be the same, and so would the gauges: Except for the writing on the guage.

well this one is sorta piece meal. I talked to my buddy (one that gave me the sender) and he's running a psi gauge w/ a bar sender and says it's giving him accurate readings, so I'll go ahead with it. I'm just using it to figure out if I'm really getting a loss in oil pressure or if my oil pressure check system is going **** up. If that's the case, I'd guess my sender to the system might be on its way out...
ah the joys. I'm almost scared to take off the lower knee bolster on this car to see what kind of wiring debacles I have ahead of me... I see an empty relay plug dangling down, and am just a lil worried

When I did my Autometer gauges I originally used the matched sender that came with the gauge. However it was destroyed by errant road debris (I tapped the oil drain plug for the sender & it did hang kind of low).
After several calls to E-Gauges (where I bought them) it was determined that the stock VDO sender should be adequate for Autometer gauge. After hooking it up and taking a spin it read the same as the matched set. So IME it works ok if you've got the same resistance values.

if I take my multi meter and measure the resistance across the terminal on the sender... that's how I find the resistance on the sender...
now how do i find the resistance on the gauge itself? Do i just tap into the receiving end where the sender hooks into the gauge and then a ground?
thanks for the help!

Now it's an antique. I got the matching 6 disc changer too, also antique. I am going to do a new system this year, but new tunes were not a priority the last few years - performance was!
