Default Moving on......(a little 4000, a lot of other Audi, and some surprise baby content!)

I'm posting this here because there is a BIT of 4000 content, and this is the forum I am (by far) the most active in.

Well, I began looking for a wagon as soon as we found out Pam was pregnant. I sold my daily driver (a 90) in August. It had been a great car.

I considered a variety of wagons. My love of the 4000 (my favorite Audi model, largely for reliability) had me wanting to graft the rear end of a late 80s/early 90s VW Fox hatch/mini-wagon onto the front 2/3 of a 4000 to make a 4000 wagon. My wife didn't like the idea. I found this picture of a custom Ur Quattro wagon. I can dream...

I looked at a LOT of 1995-'98 A6 wagons, and considered a few 1995.5 S6 wagons (decided against the "S" for reliability issues), but couldn't find anything that was super nice and didn't want to have to do a "restoration" on a ten year old car.

I had an offer accepted on a SWEET A4 avant (LOADED- Tiptronic, etc.) which handled great and was a size I was cool with, but the wife said it was too small for all of the soon-to-be needed baby stuff (TWINS, remember?!).

At last I found a MINT '01 A6 avant that was to my liking. I negotiated with the dealer for 4+ hours, nearly left twice, but finally agreed on the price. If he only knew I would have paid as much as $3000 more.... I was SMITTEN!

This thing is just awesome. Satellite radio, Tiptronic, premium leather (a tier above the standard leather), you name it. It had a great set of tires on it, but I picked up a set of RS4 replica rims to dress it up a bit.

I just picked up a set of GORGEOUS wheels & tires off of an '07 with 6 miles on them. I went with 16" on the RS4 replicas to maintain ride quality (thinking of potholes, etc. in the winter). These 17 inchers will be my summer set-up:

To help pay for the wagon, and to make room in the garage for a playpen (until the boys are old enough to get under and help, too!) I sold my 1974 Fox to a member of another VW/Audi forum. The new owner lives in Indiana and will keep the Fox stored in New Hampshire. He is a current Vanagon and R32 owner and former Dasher owner, so he is "stepping up" into the Audi!

Here she goes...loaded onto the trailer for the ride home, with the truck full of the many spare parts I had accumulated over the years. He picked her up just yesterday.

So today I moved cars around, drove the 100LS, the Coupe, and of course my favorite, the 4000. I hope the boys like the cars, because the 4000, Coupe, and 100LS are with me for the long haul. I look forward to taking them to car shows, get-togethers, etc. We'll each pick one and go!

Oh, did I forget to mention.......

AARON AND JESS WERE BORN THURSDAY MORNING!!!!!!!

They came VERY early, but are doing GREAT (and so is Mom). What can I say? Things are going to be different now.....

Default CONGRATS!!!!

(sorry bout the departure of the Fox, but) Congratulations to you and Pam! Yes, 2023 will be a good year for the arrival of Team Teach at Carlisle (but I'm sure we'll see you there before then).
Enjoy every day with the twins....take lots of pictures....they grow up way too quickly.
Cheers!

Default Congratulations! Now you've got double the trouble, double the bliss!

And I'll see you on the A6 forum as well. There's a pretty good group of guys/gals on that forum. Not quite as "personable" maybe, however a really great group.

Nice collection of cars!

Hope the wife is doing well. Were the twins full-term?

These are my grand-daughters, "driving" the 4000...
