Last week when i was driving my 87 4000CS Quattro, the clutch pedal started to stick on the floor. i would have to pull it back out with my foot. soon, i would start to push the pedal and it would automatically go to the floor. now it won't even shift into gear. anyone know anything about this kind of problem?? thanks

link to msg is below
u can get both parts from megaparts.com or elsewhere as well. besides those there are also a couple of other inexpensive parts as well that u should seriously consider buying if u are going to go the route of doing the slave as well.

disconnect the pedal from the master cyl linkage, unbolt it from the firewall, undo the nut holding on the clutch line nice and easy, keep something underneath to catch any fluid, not much should come out. oh, and once its out, dont be retarded like me and compress that piston just for fun and squirt brake fluid all over your friend who's helping you... then you just pop the new one in, bleed the air out of the system, you have to add a little fluid to replace what came out in the cylinder, then adjust the pedal and poof! easy as pie

or the one under the hood. i got in under the steering wheel and took a look at the clutch pedal setup. it looks to me like the problem is with the cylinder that's just above the pedal on the inside of the car. let me know if this sounds right.

the MASTER CYLINDER rod extends thru the firewall if i am correct, but the unit is on the engine side of the firewall. it is about 7/8 inches long and cylindrical, diameter a little smaller than a half dollar.
the SLAVE CYLINDER is actually set into the transmission itself (on the drivers side i believe)

i made this in paint, its not terrible, some of its simplified... and now that i look at it i forgot the hose to the brake fluid reservoir, the master cyl has its own little reservoir inside. hope this helps
